Almost no-one is ambivalent about Timeshare; you either love it or hate it.
For every person who has had a time share for years and adores it you will find another with a horror story about pressure selling or being unable to dispose of a no longer wanted apartment somewhere.
RCI Timeshares, though, have long been considered as being the acceptable face of the industry - an organization which has not just survived the scare stories of the timeshare community but has actually thrived and developed into an enormous world-wide concern.
It’s hard to believe, but RCI ( Resort Condominiums International Limited ) has been around for over 30 years now - being established in 1974 with its first office in Park Fletcher, Indianapolis. By 1983 it had expanded into Europe, South America, Asia and Africa and was officially one of the fastest growing privately owned companies in the United States. By the time it reached its 30th birthday it had over 3 million members, affiliated resorts in 101 countries and was arranging more than 2.5 million exchanges each year.
And it continues to grow!
But what exactly is RCI and why has it flourished so spectacularly in such a competitive field?
When you buy a timeshare, you buy the right to use a specific holiday accommodation for a set amount of time each year. This accommodation will customarily be on a resort complex with similar timeshare accommodation and communal facilities but you can also find timeshares in, for example, caravans or canal boats. RCI even offers its members shares in Italian castles.
RCI has kept at the head of the game by continually developing the basic proposition of quality timeshare so that they can tailor holidays to suit different requirements. They have a range of varied options to select from - Biennial, Fixed Weeks, ‘Floating’ Weeks, Fractional Ownership, ‘Last Call’ schemes, Guest Certificates, Cruise Vacations and a Points Program which enables you to build credit through travel-related services such as airline tickets and car rentals.
RCI is also the world’s foremost company in exchanging vacations - allowing people the freedom to exchange their timeshare with someone else to visit different places, confident in the quality of the holiday they will enjoy. A colleague of mine has two RCI timeshares in the same resort; one in the spring and the other in late summer. His family uses the spring one annually to revisit their favorite destination but exchange the summer date so that they can holiday elsewhere.
Timeshare doesn’t come cheap. The average one today apparently costs around $14,800 - and at peak times it’s much higher. In addition, there is an annual maintenance fee after the initial outlay. Furthermore, you won’t have to search the internet for very long before you uncover some of the stories about what can go wrong.
However, if you are fully aware of the financial and personal obligations you are committing yourself to, and are looking for the top end of the timesharing experience, then RCI timeshares must be the place to start - and probably finish - your search.
